8M0199048 Mercury Power Steering Pump Gen C Standard

For all Mercury outboards that use power steering.

This pump replaces the previous Gen B pump kits 8M0131261, 8M0131262, and 8M0131263, which are no longer available.

Important: Converting from a Gen B pump to this Gen C pump requires additional components. The parts required depend on the existing hydraulic hoses, electrical system, engine configuration, and number of engines.

Please review the attached service bulletin and installation instructions before ordering or installing this pump.

Included With the Pump

  • 1 Gen C power steering pump assembly
  • 2 bottles of SAE 0W-30 Full Synthetic Power Steering Fluid

This kit does not include a pump power harness, signal driver harness, or CAN 3 pump harness.

Required Pump Power Harness

One new pump power harness is required for each pump. Select the appropriate length and choose either a fused harness or a harness without a fuse, depending on the boat's electrical system.

Power Harnesses With 80-Amp Fuse

Part # Description Length
8M0150103 Power harness with fuse 4 ft.
8M0150104 Power harness with fuse 12 ft.
8M0150105 Power harness with fuse 24 ft.

The fused harnesses include an 80-amp cube fuse assembly. The service replacement fuse is part #8M0129535.

Power Harnesses Without a Fuse

Use a power harness without a fuse only when the boat is equipped with a properly rated circuit breaker instead of a fused connection. The circuit breaker must meet the specifications in the attached service bulletin.

Part # Description Length
8M0150142 Power harness without fuse 4 ft.
8M0150143 Power harness without fuse 12 ft.
8M0150144 Power harness without fuse 24 ft.

Required Signal Driver and CAN 3 Harnesses

The signal driver and CAN 3 pump harness are sold separately.

The complete power steering pump harness kits listed below include the signal driver harness and CAN 3 pump harness. They do not include the pump power harness.

Gen B Pump Back-Fit Requirements

When replacing an existing Gen B pump, the dampener hose between the pressure hose and pump must be removed. It is not used with the Gen C pump.

Adapter hose part # 8M0152467 is required for this back-fit. The adapter has a Saginaw flare fitting that connects to the boat's existing pressure hose and a -6 ORFS connection for the Gen C pump.

The adapter hose is the same length as the dampener hose it replaces.

Electrical System and Automatic Power Switch

The Gen C power steering pump can draw up to 80 amps. The boat's circuit protection, power cables, and any Automatic Power Switch (APS) must be inspected to confirm that they are suitable for the Gen C pump's electrical requirements.

Some older APS units and power supply components may require replacement. Refer to the attached service bulletin to identify the existing APS and determine whether additional power cables, fuses, circuit protection, or connection hardware are required.

Do not select a harness without a fuse unless the existing circuit breaker and wiring have been verified for this application.

Please download and carefully review both the service bulletin and the current installation instructions above. Installation or service should be performed by a technician trained in Mercury Marine power steering systems.
