Why is the number printed on my part different from what I actually ordered or received?

We know it doesn't make sense, but in most cases the part number printed or stamped on a Mercury part is not actually the part number you order. Some of the numbers stamped on your part are internal to Mercury Marine or casting numbers, etc.

The "part number" as listed in the parts catalog will include the part, the box or plastic bag and possibly instructions or additional packing material. This number may be similar or sometimes very different from the actual piece that you are going to install.

The number on the box or bag is the actual "part number" and as long as that agrees with your invoice you have received the part you ordered. Please see our blog page for an example.
